Abstract

This geospatial dataset represents the Neighbourhoods of the Regional Municipality of Niagara with associated selected Stats Can data, data from Public Health and data from Community Services. For the purposes of statistical monitoring however, these neighbourhoods were defined based on Statistics Canada Dissemination Areas. The boundaries for these neighbourhoods were developed using the following criteria: 1. A neighbourhood had a total population of approximately 3000. 2. The neighbourhood boundaries align with natural (i.e. waterways, the Niagara Escarpment) and artificial (i.e. highways, tunnels) boundaries. 3. The neighbourhood boundaries align with 2016 Dissemination Areas (DA) as determined by Statistic Canada. (The dissemination Area is a small, relatively stable geographic unit that consists of approximately 400 to 700 people. DAs are the smallest standard geographic areas from which census data are disseminated by Statistics Canada.)

    Note: Dataset generated from 2016 Statistics Canada Dissemination Area Boundaries. As such, the Horizontal accuracy of this dataset is coincident with that of the source file. See below for horizontal accuracy reference. This dataset was derived from the National Geographic Base. The data in the National Geographic Base is stored in double precision. However, the positional accuracy of the features in the National Geographic Base varies. The positional accuracy of the Cartographic Boundary Files is based on the positional accuracy of the source material used in its production (The National Geographic Base, the National Atlas GeoBase Hydrography and the National Topographic Database). The positional accuracy is estimated at a range of +/- 25 m to 125 m.
