Abstract

This layer includes polygon representation of parks located within the Niagara region extent. The data was collected and validated with the regions local area municipalities. Where no official address exists, location was adjusted to include street or nearest cross-street. Different municipalities include various types of open land as “Parks” so there may be some discrepancy between municipalities. The layer is intended for reference only and does not represent the exact boundary or area of the park. This dataset should not be used for any boundary identification processes.

Process step

  • The dataset was created by taking polygon and point shape files provided by the Local Area Municipalities

Process step

  • Polygon layer provided by the municipality was verified against the available existing Parks (point) information. In some cases, some polygons, which are having same information, were merged together

Process step

  • Point layer provided by the municipality was verified against the available existing parks information. Selected parcels in Assessment Parcels layer that intersect the points and created a polygon layer from the selection. The new polygon layer was assigned the attributes of parks point features by spatially joining together. In some cases adjoin parcels were merged together in order to maintain the consistency of the information. Finally, the new polygon layer was merged with the layer that was created in step 2

Process step

  • Check the topology errors and eliminated
